Resting

Resting is a mechanic in LISA: THE PAINFUL and LISA: THE JOYFUL in which Brad or Buddy can heal all party members' HP, SP and remove all negative status ailments. However, this leaves some at a risk most of the time. When waking up from resting, a multitude of things can happen to you upon your waking up. This ranges from strange mutants farting on you, a Party Member being Kidnapped or a spider poisoning you. However, some positive results may happen such as gifts or assistance. It is recommended, if possible, to use a safe camp or the Inn in Construction due to its safety.

LISA: THE PAINFUL

While some resting areas are unique, most camps have a set number of good or bad outcomes:

1. Nothing happens.
2. A random guy farts on you, no negative effect
3. You are equipped temporarily with a Joy mask, possibly from Buzzo
4. A Spider afflicts you with Poison
5. A Spider afflicts you with Deep Poison
6. A creep overlooks you, no negative effect. Rarely, the same creep will also explode after Brad stands up and stares at it for a moment.
7. A present is left for you
8. A note informing you that a party member has been kidnapped by the Blue Rockets, Pretty Boys, or the Gale Motorcycle Club appears. This is the second party member in your menu. (If you have no party when this event is chosen there the note just says "Watch your back." but they will still appear in their base holding no one hostage. The note will also appear if you've already killed the gang members of this area, or paid a ransom for the gang of this area.)
9. An item is stolen from you
10. Mags are stolen from you
11. A party member decides to leave your party. This is the fourth party member in your menu more often than not.
12. A note is found in the rest area, reading "I love you." No negative effects.
13. The screen remains black and the bell sound effect that plays when waking up is not heard. Brad can still move around during this, and the only way to escape it is to relocate the campfire and rest again, to which you should wake up normally. This is most likely a glitch.

Each campsite can have a specific set of actions that are chosen randomly upon waking up, Below is a list of all campsite and their effects:

LISA: THE JOYFUL

The effects in LISA: THE JOYFUL are similar to that of PAINFUL:

1. Nothing happens.
2. A Spider afflicts you with Poison
3. A Spider afflicts you with Deep Poison
4. You are kidnapped and taken to the Lower Crossroads. This can only happen once
5. A present is left with an item
6. Buddy is attacked by The Goofs, Pee Bingle and Tommy Dingle. This can only happen once

Campfire Events

After each Warlord is defeated in Area 1, Buddy will rest at the campfire while Rando watches over her. Each of these times, Rando will wake Buddy and the two will talk.

Below are each of the exchanges between Buddy and Rando.

First Campfire Scene

Rando: H-Hey. R: You should rest. R: You look ti-tired. Buddy: What’s that supposed to mean? R: N-Nothing. R: The road takes its t-t-toll, that’s all. B: Alright… Good idea. B: You better not fall asleep. B: I’m trusting you… Buddy goes to sleep as the screen fades to black. The screen fades back in to the two in the dark. R: H-Hey. R: Buddy. B: What. R: I’ve been thinking. B: … I’m trying to sleep. R: I’ve been thinking about what you’re d-d-doing… R: W-Wouldn’t you rather be doing something else> R: We could build a home. R: Somewhere safe… R: I-It would be great. Y-You could play all you want, away from… This. B: … R: I-I mean, a kid like you shouldn’t be living like this… R: Back before the Fl-Flash… Children would play all day. R: Olathe used to have a lot of great f-f-ields and creeks to play in… R: I-I didn’t have a great childhood… But even I remember the good times. R: Girl or not, th-this isn’t how you should live. The screen fades back in to the two in the dark. R: H-Hey. B: Again with this? R: It’s important… R: I’m running out of options. R: … R: My real name is Dustin Armstrong. R: D-Dusty for short. B: … B: That’s Brad’s last name. R: Yeah… I was his adopted son. B: What? B: What’s adopted? R: Uh… It’s… R: It’s complicated. B: He’s your dad? R: W-Well… I like to think so. R: But, H-He. R: H-He didn’t like being called Dad. R: Things weren’t exactly perfect. R: But, I respect him very much. R: Even up till the end. B: He didn’t like me calling him Dad either. Near the campfire is the corpse of a mutated Bob Friday. Rando: No… R: Bob… Buddy: Hey, wait. B: It’s one of the kidnappers. B: The fat one. B: How do you know his name? R: … R: I… I know just about everyone around here. B: … Hm. B: Well, good riddance. B: He deserved it. R: Buddy, stop. R: You can’t keep d-doing this. R: You can’t ke-ee-ep killing people. B: And why’s that? R: Because! R: You alone have th-the power to give us a fu-future. R: You can restore the w-w-world. Create peace. B: … B: You’re right about one thing. B: I do have power. B: I have a lot of power. B: And I will create MY own future, and MY own world. B: I may be young Dustin, but I’ve gained knowledge. B: I will never let anyone control me again. R: Not all of these people deserve death… R: I-I can’t do this anymore. R: I never wanted this… B: How can you defend these people?
