BradsHouse

Brad's House is the first playable area of Pre-Area 1. The house itself is a small and simple (if somewhat cramped) dome-shaped house, originally shared by Brad and his childhood friends Rick, Sticky, and Cheeks. Brad's House initially only had a single floor, but its inhabitants eventually dug out a cellar to accommodate for Buddy's presence.

Story[]

Prior to the events of LISA: THE PAINFUL RPG, Brad, Richard, Sticky, and Cheeks lived together in Brad's House. After Brad discovered an infant Buddy and decided to raise her as his own daughter, the group spent an unknown amount of time digging out a cellar for additional living-space. The two-floor house acted as the makeshift family's home for several years, up until it was raided by Buddy's kidnappers.

The Cliff[]

Terry Dog

During one of his bouts of Joy and alcoholism, Brad is awoken by the sound of Cheese Legs barking, and walks over to the Cliff. Here, Brad finds a man, Terry, standing atop a tree, clearly afraid of the dog. Upon seeing him, Terry calls out to Brad, telling him that he had pulled his hamstring while climbing up the tree, and is unable to fight. After Brad fights and (presumably) kills Cheese Legs, Terry climbs down from the tree and tells Brad that he seems "pretty lonely", before forcing himself into Brad's party, since he's "a nice guy".

After joining, Terry will ask if Brad is able to take a "Pain Mode" or not. This choice will affect the game, changing some enemies and making save crows one-time only.

The cliff itself is blocked off by a rock with a small pink balloon tied to it. Interacting with the balloon will reveal that, if the balloon was not present, Brad would have fallen off the cliff to his death, saying that "this balloon just saved your life".

Camp brads House

On the west side of the Cliff, several empty bottles can be found and picked up. This leads to an area that contains a campsite that Brad can rest at. There is also a single Save Point that Brad can use.

NOTE: If Pain Mode has been activated, it is recommended to leave this Save Point unused for as long as possible. It is also notable that the campsite found in this area is one of the few in the game that cannot lead to any negative results. If the player is in a dire situation and is fearful of an undesirable outcome from resting at a regular campsite, this one can be used.

TerrySpoilers
HEY, HOLD UP! There's SPOILERS down there, if you want to avoid them scroll until the next orange box.
Even a hint master shouldn't know the future.

In the Definitive Edition of Painful, if this campfire is rested at after collecting all of the equipment for Tardy's boat in Area 3, it will lead to Brad waking up in a nightmarish version of the area around his house. This area is very long and holds some very difficult encounters, including what is unarguably the strongest enemy in the game. It is recommended not to enter this area without preparing beforehand, as the party's inventory carries into the nightmare, and there is a high probability to lose at least one party member.

The spoilers are all done now, so you can now resume reading the rest of the article as normal.

Outside of Brad's House[]

BradsHouse

Outside of Brad's House, several blood-splatters can be seen on the ground, and slumped against the house itself is a mortally-wounded Cheeks. Cheeks tells Brad that the "secret's out" and that "she's gone", before succumbing to his wounds. Brad intends to abandon Terry, but due to the latter's persistence, he vaguely explains the situation to him. Terry shows sympathy, before deciding to join Brad's party (again), due to him being "a very strong warrior".

Inside of Brad's House[]

InsideBrads

Inside of Brad's House, several dead-bodies can be seen; likely raiders who were killed by Richard, Sticky, and/or Cheeks while defending Buddy. A Rusty Knife can be found stuck in the bottom-right corpse, which can be equipped by a future party member. A few of Buddy's drawings can be seen in the cellar; a picture of the sky (according to the artbook, "the sky" is one of the things that Buddy likes), a picture of Buddy's "uncles" Richard, Sticky, and Cheeks, and a picture of Brad and Buddy together, described as "a happy family".

The Path[]

WestBradCrowRope

On the west side of Brad's House, the Path can be crossed. There is another Save Point present here, along with a rope which leads down to the Summit.

WestBradJerky

Moving even further west will lead to a cliff which has a splatter of blood on the ground, along with a bag of Mystery Jerky.

The Summit[]

BradsSummitBody

Climbing down the aforementioned rope will lead to the Summit. On the west side, a dead-body can be found holding a Diet Cocola-Cola. On the east side of the Summit, a very short path is present, but ends very abruptly. If the player is not careful, they may fall off the cliff and die. Another bag of Mystery Jerky is present on this cliff.

The Cavern[]

WalterStringrayBridge

Moving further east from the Summit will lead to a bridge that is guarded by Walter Stingray. He tells Brad that he wants Buddy all to himself, before charging at him and initiating a fight. Once Walter has been defeated and (presumably) killed, Brad can enter the Path to the Beginning.
